Xbox Live Help

I have made many of these threads on various sites, but it's always fruitless. Hopefully I can get some help on a site specifically for games....

Ok, I'm going to throw everything down and see if you guys can help.

I have broadband.

I have wireless internet, but the computer is in a different room. The wireless modem thingy is USB, and fits into the 360. I wonder why it won't pick up the signal.

I messed up my IP address etc. when I was trying to fix it. How can i retrieve this? (I lost the 360 IP address, not the PC)

It tells me i need an update to access the internet. When i click OK, it tells me it's not working, check my internet settings things. When I do everything passed (until i messed it up) right up until Xbox live. But I'm trying to download an update so I can get xbox live!!!

Anyone able to help?

First of all a good way to start is to email Microsoft when tech support is supposed to go and wait. Another way is to have your ISP come and reset your internet and set everything up. They should be able to set your Xbox up as well.

Another way that comes to mind is reset your Xbox to all factory settings and start from there.

Those are two ways. I will do some research and ask some friends and get back with an answer if I remember. If I don' remember pm me to remind me.

If I restore the 360, won't I lose all my saves etc...? If so, CRAP!

I went into a game shop yesterday to get an xbox live WiFi thing, i had 70 euro and they were 95, and he said that it was a waste of money. He told me to try and use a cable connection. He said it's faster than wireless and WAY cheaper. SO i got Assassins Creed.

You can reset the network settings in Network Settings in the System blade. That will have it assign itself a new IP address if you messed up your old one. It says "Restore to Factory Defaults" or something similar, and it sounds frightening, but don't worry, it's separate from your game saves and all your other data and won't mess it up. Just make sure you're doing it in Network Settings.
I don't know how to set up a wireless connection since I use a cable connection, though. Just get a nice long cable and use that.

The 360 is on a different floor to the modem and it's not directly above the room that the modem is in....
There's a phone line box thing beside the 360 but i think it's broken, I'll have to see if it'll work....

Do you have a modem that the cable runs through? Because if so, the line wouldn't work.

Wireless works fine for me unless someone is on a computer. Then that is come lag. Nothing to noticeable usually.

The wire thing works if you get a long cord that hinds into the whole room.

If the error comes at "Xbox LIVE" then that means you haven't bought the service yet o.o.

Yes, it comes with Silver, but the only time I've hit that error is when I haven't bought gold.

When you test the connection, what are the suggestions/what does it say is wrong?

well right now its not connected at all. ill need to get the box fixed. i restored the settings, but it wont pass the connectin test so

I'm a total noob when it comes to this kind of thing, but somehow I manage to set all my networks + connect everything, without causing any problems. So here is my advice:

1- It may sound stupid, but wouldn't a router help ? Modems are not design to be use by more than one computer (the 360 is basically a comp). A router could help, and maybe fix future problems with this.

2- If it is all plugged in, and you are not getting a signal, than perhaps your modem is not wireless? Or that option may have been turn off.
Check your modem by your pc (Most modem respond by you typing "home" on the address bar of a browser or by typing your IP on the address bar). Once you are in your modem's homepage go to your settings (could be under advance settings) and check that air router (or wireless, however you want to call it) is activated.

As I said, not sure if any of this is relevant but it might help.
