| The makeing of a great game. | | I have been playing games since 1990. The first game that I ever played was super mario 3. A few years later I owned a SNES and my new favorite game was joe and mac, smash t.v,super battletoads. Then I got a computer and my first game for computer was kings quest 6. After all of this I decided that my career choice would be to make games that I would want to play. I love everything about a good game. Graphics are key but I think the best part is a storyline that is either believeable or good. There are a lot of good games out there as a lot of you show in your threads. As games get better and the next generation comes to us what will make you spend your money(or even better your parents money ) As consoles get more expensive the choice for me at least becomes harder to pick truly great games to own. I can beat majority of games that I rent so what would cause me to buy a game? If it has multiple endings, hidden content, maximum replayabilty. In my mind a 50-60 game better have everything I want or I will not think twice to pass it up. As consoles fight for our money to become the best console in terms of sales they better bring the goodness which I crave or im gone. I hope many of you look for consoles with good games or perhaps you own a console because its the newest. Do you think game developers eventually run out of ideas as people demand more and more sequels?

| Re: The makeing of a great game. | | Yeah even though their are game series that have had completly original ideas in each one, one cant stop to think when will they run out of ideas and start remaking their original classics or make crappy sequels that mess up the series and will mess it up forever such as not to name names but one series that i loved and played for hours at a time as soon as it went to a different gen it lost me forever that series is driver once loved on old skool consoles as soon as it went current gen bam they must have run out of idea's.

| Re: The makeing of a great game. | | Thats exactly happened to driver. You want to know how I know. I read a intervier when driv3r came out and it said we are starting to run out of creative ways to make this project fun again. |

I hope many of you look for consoles with good games or perhaps you own a console because its the newest. Do you think game developers eventually run out of ideas as people demand more and more sequels? | Of course they will run out of ideas. Isn't it obvious? There are many subliminal factors that contribute to a game either than just say graphics or storyline. Sure those things help (I myself am a graphics whore), but one, in my opinion, must look at things more than just the bread and water. I prefer to look at it's ingenuity, something rare these days, and it's devotion to art. I truly believe that videogames are art and are the most expressive definition of art. Games such as Ico and Shadow Of The Colossus are no brainers, beautiful yet simple and intuitive. The Legend Of Zelda games are another great reference for what makes a game a game. or at least, what a game must strive to be to affect the demographic. But, as the crowd demands more blood. The developers must satiate that urge. And how do they do this? By, of course, creating sequels. It's sad to say, but sequel are the main reason why videogames are around today. Ever hear of the first videogame industry crash? Audiences love the smoke and gunfire, over beauty and perception. Such is the way for videogames as well. People want to see more of the same game, yet from different perspective. Though encouraged, originality is not a favorable trend in the videogame entertainment indutry. Look what happened to development studio Oddworld Inhabitants for an example. They created something truly out of the norm from regular FPS, and they were screwed because it was found to be too much of too many things. Same with Psychonauts, and Beyond Good & Evil. Thank goodness those respectable studios are still here to stay. But for how much longer? Yes, developers will eventually run out of ideas. Yes, they will never stop making sequels. But, it's understandable that it must be done to help the industry thrive as well as it's doing right now. Hell, in 2010 the videogame industry will gross more earnings than film and music combined. Now that's a fact. And a very comforting one. Even though there will be a loss of art in the process. That's why i've taken it upon myself to join the videogame development community. I'm earning my Bachelors in Game Art right now in college. And, one day, i hope to restore what the industry is losing. I'm not ignorant or arrogant enough to say i can do it, but i'll try my best in what is an unsteady future to the greatest pastime. |

That is a very good question though. But, if the graphics in games reach a realistic threshold in the next-gen systsm, then the games will all look the same anyways, so no room for improvement. |

| Re: The makeing of a great game. | | Nope your wrong. Graphics can get better then real. The pixels will become greater. They already use something called a voxel. Which is a volume pixel. It greatly increases the clarity and the color. You can improve graphics to no limits. |
