Tests? Do they determine Intelligence?

Just taking a page out of the IQ test thread, I wanted to get some peoples views of whether or not, a Test actually determines your intelligence?

For instance, a person who hardly does homework, and is below average in the class, gets a 90 in an exam, is he deemed smart?

Meld over this for a bit, and feel free to comment.

No, it can be by luck, cheating, massive studying, cheat sheet etc. Tests don't mean crap, just like those commericals on TV.

Test determine how much you know, Or what you've learnt.

Depends what test it is.

^no not totally, you could have learned something and totally blanked out that day because you got high,hangover,are dumb,forgetful, etc. I forget alot thus i am dumb. But i am also smart so i smumb.

Like, I myself never considered the other factors that could have been brought into place.

Test is about what you know, Not guessing.

Teacher : "Try to answer all questions, Guess them"

Wtf, It's about what you know not what you think.

/Meh confused my self in a post that completely makes no sense.

You can never really determine your intelligence...I've always believed that remembrance is not intelligence...next time you take a class, watch how easy/difficult it is for you to master it and compare it to others. Do you do well? Poorly? That's the true test.

Wow, Emarian, you should like make a plaque of that last line, and hang it on a wall, for all those who think twice about thinking whether getting a 90 in an exam, makes them smarter more or less applicable.

What bothers me is. For example my parents right, I got a bad mark for an exam once, and they said "Wow, keep this up and you'll be a hobo in no time".

Which lead me to ask them one question, "If I were to fail this exam, and still became a HUGE success, in the future, would that change your mind about how tests determine your intelligence"

They said "No".

Left me speechless (for the first time xD)

For example, in HS, I knew the material, but didn't want to bother committing terms to memory that would never help me in life. There was this one dude that kept thinking that he was so much smarter than me because he studied more than me. When it came down to SAT where it asked us actual questions that require thinking and not just some memorized words, I beat him by almost 300 points.

Same case here, only in business studies, (just to clear it, even ask Puke, that islanders are viewed as stupid ignorant no nothings, even in Australia xD) This one indian kid, studies his brains out, I dont xD, and I still got a higher mark than him, this is the yearly exam for the final semester.

Poor guy, it broke him in two, I honestly didn't care xD (More worried about lunch haha)
