why did this thread get deleted...anyway i wanted to say this but it got deleted or something while i was typing it...here is what i said.

"gamma, i'm not saying your wrong about this, but deep inside do you actually really care for the kid dieing in africa, who you never seen or met, would it really affect you if he lived or died?

i mean, i do volunteer on occasion, and i would give money to charity if i had a job...but seriously...the main reason people give is not because they actually care about the people they're giving money too, but because they want to feel good about themselves or they want to get recognition from other people.

there is no such thing as a selfless good deed "

Changed the title of the thread.

The point of the other thread to simply point out that I did not care where I lived, as long as it had technological access. People seem to think that I love the US so much, when I'd just as rather live in Sweden or somewhere else where I could do what I love legally.

The other thread got off topic, so I deleted it.

Hopefully this one can stay on the tracks.

Think about it. I've done this a lot lately; put yourself in that kid's position.

If you were on your street, starving, begging for food, almost willing to kill for it - how amazing would it be to get 15 bucks?

Consider if you gave 50 bucks?

Meh, i'm happy where I live. I got friends here. Also lol, Emarian probably pirates 10 times more things than me but still it would be alot better in a place where downloading movies was legal. Maybe if I took the house I'm in right now and everyone I know around there and moved it all to another country.

Edit: and yeah, I give when I can. sometimes. Not when it's not a possibility though.

Btw, I don't have that much money to give to poor people, probably around 1000$ a year.

I know this is actually much for a 17 year old, but I Work for it 5 days a year to get that money, it's not that hard to make a difference.

I dunno if I deep down do it for self pleasure or not, but it makes me feel good when I know I made one poor kids day better, and it wasn't that hard for myself, and that's not bad is it?

Feeling good is a natural part of giving. Lets face it, there are plenty in the world who desperately need help and if people donate to them in order to make themselves feel good...well...the donation is still being made and the benefits will still be felt....so personally I dont care if people donate for reasons of selfishness or total purity. Just so long as the help reaches its target.
I sponser an individual child plus an entire community, and yes it does make me feel good about myself. It also makes me realise how lucky I am (I dont even miss the money and it means the world to them) and how much of a difference one person can make.

Im not gonna judge you for it. I think its a shame yes, but no judging here. Charity should be off your own back, not the result of pressure. And it's hard to feel for someone you will never see, or who has no bearing on your personal existence.
Anyway, they say charity begins at home, so perhaps something not money-orientated would suit you more? Got a local street-bum nearby? give him your lunch sometime (you wont die I promise ) or perhaps buy two drinks at the shop and give him one on the way past.

Yes, I'm not a sentiment I guess, I just never had the need/want to donate to charity, honestly not too be to harsh, they can die for all I care, I still wouldn't go over to Africa and help them.

Trust me, I'm not selfless, I help when I WANT to help.

He meant that it is a shame that someone isn't getting help, not that you specifically are not helping them.

Basically, one more person, using you as an example, is still a big help.

I am not SELFLESS, I do help people Gamz....

It's just that I don't feel like helping them at all, I don't care about them, I care about people, but to me charity is just sad

If they wanted money badly to help people, they could find their own means of getting money, trust me theirs tons of ways, but now they're deciding to be lazy and and staying true to their names, and becoming charity cases.

This is a hot topic folks, I"m going to have to insist and have this moved to the intelligent section.
