Intelligent Discussion is too one-sided on forums

Intelligence Discussion is great on this forum and other forums. However, I believe they are becoming too one-sided. This is no one person's fault, but it is a issue I believe deserves attention. Most of the time, intelligent discussion often has more people on one side of the issue rather than the other. That's fine when the ratio is 2:1 or 3:1. However, on most forums (this one too) the ratio is become too great (like 6:1 for example). Unfortunatly, when that person who comes from other side of the arguement begins to speak, he/she becomes the target of a barrage of attacks rather than 1-2 discussions (though this site rarely does that). This often causes the other person to suffer defeat, even if he/she has a better arguement. Though it isn't the biggest trouble here, I would like it not to become a problem. Thus, I was hoping to work out some sort of system where everyone gets to say their opinion and debates between people don't become overwhelming to one side (by way of too many people arguing what u say at once).

How does everyone else feel about this topic?

Maybe we should have someone moderate a thread and he/she could insure that it doesn't happen?

if you put your points across well enough and outdebate others then it doesnt matter if theres only one of you.No-one is preventing you or anyone else from putting your view across.

Yeah, everyone is free to express there opinions, but it's sad to see opinion bashing, lol.

I remember in the one thread, where I said that I wouldn't donate to charity, I thought my honesty would get a bit of respect, except I got a barrage of people saying "you're sad" etc...

Fact of the matter, it happens, nothing can be done, but put up a stronger wall of arguments.

The only thing that could be done is just allowing 1v1 topics, which would be stupid, as other people can have more basis/facts to support your theory, and the other way around.

I mean, intelligent discussion is intelligent discussion.

If you're not posting facts/statistics/real thoughts/etc, then you probably shouldn't be talking. If some people simply aren't listening, they probably shouldn't be there either, unless they have counter-evidence to your real evidence.

You can say something else than your own opinion to start a discussion.

Like:

I looove rap and punk, it's so good because of the rhythm, and the lyrics really get to me"

Not the best example, but you get it. I would never say something like that, but it would start a discussion.

I can't stop people from saying their opinions just to keep it balanced. And if I won't do it myself, I'm not telling anyone else to. o.o

Meh, it'll never be balanced though, if you had a "Gay Marriage" thread, you won't be surprised how many people are objected to it.

I've noticed that as well. Though i never really see the person flamed for being on the other side.
