It sounds like the patch. Version has nothing to do with cd key, only the version of the exe itself, which I assume you replaced? It's better to use mini-images for MMO's.

Np, I had burned the crack & other files it needed to a disk, I had manually installed the patch before i ran the game.

Your link is broken. I assume that you're talking about a multiplayer scenario. In any case where you connect the game to the internet, and you've used a keygen or a crack, you will most probably get error messages, since the database can usually recognize that you've used a hacked copy. I suggest that you make it easier on yourself to get a legitimate copy, since most games don't cost more than $50.
