Which controller, in your opinion, is the better controller? Please look beyond your normal opinions on the better system and consider which controller is better.


My personal opinion is the 360 controller - not only is it considerably more stylish than the PS3 controller, but it is more comfortable in my hand. Also, the triggers are more suitable for FPS's (the R2s on the PS3 controller feel strange, unless you are playing a racing game, but racing games work just as well with the 360 triggers). I also like the position of the analog sticks better. Having both of them right next to each other on the DualShock feels strange and unnatural to me.

What is your opinion?

NOTE 1: I did not include the Wii because it is in a class of its own - please do not argue about it.

NOTE 2: I put this in off-topic gaming because I wanted it to remain clear of favoritism. Hey, at least I tried.

Hmm, I'd also like to point out that the 360 controller is made of higher quality plastic, you can literally feel the quality difference. I have a friend of mine who has already gotten a PS3 controller with a wire broken inside of the rubber, and his new controller's R1 button doesn't work. My 360 controller has had no problems yet.

I like the Ps3 controller best, they used the same design as ps2 because it's the ultimate

The material feels better though. And the variable R2 and L2 are great, especially for driving games, or games where you need to calculate "how much you want"

For me the 360 controller is ugly, and to big. If I had a 360 and got used to it I would probably say it was great, but I don't like the fact that it's so big.

Also it's better to have the analogs close, because of camera+steering controlled, makes it way easier.
Also I don't like how the up down left right is kinda together like that. It's way easier to push the exact right button on the PS3, and that tends to get hard when you are stressed.'

PS3 controler = same as it always was. except 3 differances, it has sixaxis, but it lacks dualshock. and also notice it has a new playstation button, notice how the 360 also has this.

ps3 controler lacks originality, the only thing it has in its favour is the fact that im usta the layout, because i had a playstion and a ps2 and liked both.

however, the 360 control is much more sleak and stylish. and fits better in the hand. so 360 controler wins it for me.

They use the same design because they're too cheap to make a new one.

The material does NOT feel better. And I used to play the Playstation every day, and the R2 and L2 buttons sucked. They broke more often than any other button, they were horrible, and way too far away from the buttons. Not like the 360 black and white. xD

I have felt a 360 controller, and then felt a PS3 controller. The 360 controller is far higher quality. That cannot be said anything against. Not to mention that the PS3 controller uses standard plastic, and the 360 uses water-resistant plastic to help prevent a sweaty controller if you play it too long.

Wtf are you talking about? Just because it's not flat doesn't mean it's not bigger. And I have a 360 controller about 4 inches long, and it's NOT big. The 360 controller has very close to the same mass at the PS3 controller. The PS3 controller is a solid block, wereas the 360 controller has curves for easier holding, etc. I've never seen someone that can handle a PS3 controller not being able to handle a 360 controller. That's just a noobish argument.."It's toooo big."

You just messed it up...>.< Unless you use analog with one hand, controlling both sticks with one finger, not only is that completely useless, it degrades gameplay because there's a longer wait time to get from analog to button. "Makes it way easier..." Wtf...No difference. You put a hand on an analog, and the other hand on another analog. Bad argument.

It's NOT easier to push the right button. You just lean your finger forward to go a different direction with the 360, whereas on the PS3 you have to flip from button to button. Not only is it slower, but there's a 400% chance that one button will break, compared to a 100% chance to the 360.


Face it, the PS3 controller is poorly designed. I based my argument on math, whereas yours is all opinion. A serious gamer will prefer a 360 controller, whereas a noob that hasn't played much will prefer the PS3 controller.

Emarian raises an excellent point about the physical quality of the 360 controller. I wouldn't want to have to buy new controllers because buttons die - especially if it were in the middle of a game. See my thread.... http://www.gamelair.com/gameforums/c...html#post82999

Well I've always disliked the feeling of the PS2 controller, which is also the PS3 controller. The 360 controller is so comfortable. So the 360 controller has my vote.

Jeez guys, I thought this was a thread of opinions, lol.
Of course Emarian will come with his facts and prove that it's better, but i don't care, and I don't care to find facts either, so I let you win on that, lol.

But In my opinion the variable R2 and L2 is great, and i like better hoe the analogs are close and the left,right,up,down buttons are placed.
And They didn't make the same design because they are cheap, just because it's good, and don't need any changes.
Don't get me wrong the 360 controller is good, but I prefer the PS3 controller, also because I'm used to it. But the 360 controller is a little bigger then the PS3 controller, well at least those that my friends has.

You can't call me noob for this, it's my opinion, maybe the 360 is of better quality, but I think that the PS3 is better for my gaming experience.

Though he likes the 360 controller, I don't flame him for it. And it's logic that the user will choose his systems controller over the other, because he is used to it and has evolved a way to use it.
