the idea that games CONSOLES will soon be scrapped, in replace of this virtual reality units (googles which you put on to gain full 3d panaramic view of the set) might seem strange to some. but i believe that in the 8th gen we will see the first step into virtual reality.

the Wii took the first jump into "controling" the game with real-life movements, the revolution in gaming that the Wii gave us (no longer triangle to do this, x to fire) in my view were the first step into virtual reality, next gen i believe we will start to see more intricate details, in which we are able to embed ourselfs into the characters.

imagine metal gear solid on a virtual reality console. rather than pressing a button to do stuff, you would be able to control every aspect of the characters movements using your own movements. and gain a full 3d representation off the set, so for example you can turn your head round to see behind you in the game, ect.

They have already made something like this about a year ago. It was a prototype and all you could do is walk around in this 3D environment. But its a start. You would wear goggles and run around in this 2m diametre sphere. Pretty amazing though.

I think it would be a great idea. Not to mention you could kill two birds with one stone--fun and excercise at the same time. Now everyone wouldn't be dominated by the 300-pound guy who sits at his computer and spends 20 hours a day on WoW, or something of that sort.
