well, the first 3 bands i dont even class as metal really, they are either screamo based (bullet) or hardcore alternative rock (coheed, aiden)

as for iron maiden and metallica, they are okay. yea they cope with certain themes, but no need to emo it up lol.

if you want to say that metal has themes, and emotion then that makes every song ever made emo. for example joe satriani has a lot of emotion in his songs (ten words for example, thats hugely emotional), but its not emo by any means.

same as metal, metal does not = emo.

infact, never EVER call aiden metal again, they disgrace the genre.

Okay, here's my two cents.

Metal bands have to be talented. The guitar, the drums, the vocalist are constantly pushing it to their max. They don't just strum a quick solo and then go back to the same riff the whole song, they have to go 100mph every song.

To me, no other genre can get you as pumped up as metal. I know when most of you think of metal you think of a bunch of instruments mashing away and some vocalist screaming stuff you can't hear. Well, you might be right half the time but bands like In Flames are awesome because they aren't just bashing away and the vocalist isn't just yelling nothing. You hear the words, all the instruments flow together, and most of it sounds just like hard rock but is still classified as metal.

What I'm saying is some metal bands or songs can turn you away from the genre but it's not all bad. If all I had to hear was Mike Jones I'd probably never listen to rap again. Point being, you got to give it a chance.

And if you still don't like some then you're just a gaylord. Kidding. (Am I?)

I disagree with Metal Bands have to be talented. I also disagree with the 100mph solo.

A lot of metal riffs are not that hard. If they are fast, its not hard its actually easier then doing a complex chord pattern like C, F, and the Hedrix chord E9+. Purple Haze and Funk #49 are probably harder to play then a great majority of metal songs. Because of the relatively complex chords

Some solo's can be hard but all you do is break it down into small licks and practice them. Like doing the first part of the pantera solo.

Most metal bands just stick with power chords and palm muting. Not real talent. Don't show me an inflames video because I know they have talent. :P
