I will be releasing a guide on how to dual boot XP and Linux TODAY. It will lead you, step by step, on how to install Ubuntu on an existing XP/Vista installation and configure it so that whenever you turn the computer on, it will ask you if you want to load Ubuntu Linux or Windows.

Now, the question is, do you want to install it?

If Windows makes you perfectly happy, with not a single drawback, then there's really no reason to switch. However, if you're a more advanced user (Most of you guys are) and you download things, setup installs, and that other stuff, then Linux is probably more appropriate for you.

Linux is far more secure, much faster, and free. It has EVERYTHING Windows or Mac does, and it's far more secure.

It lists popular Windows applications and their free equivalent in Linux. Linux is best for all computer users who know what they're doing, and it does an excellent job at what it does. It's far more secure than Mac, and it is simply the best all-around OS out there.

WINE (Windows Emulator) is an excellent program too. It is NOT a virtual PC. It allows you to run Windows applications on Linux just as though they were native Linux applications. I play Halo 1, Command and Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath, Day of Defeat, Half-Life 2, and Counterstrike: Source all the time with Linux. Hell, you can even play EVE online, Silkroad, or WoW using WINE. I also like to use Photoshop on Linux. WINE is very powerful and runs applications/games at 100% on Linux.

If you are tired of having to pay for software, tired of viruses, or anything of the sort, just look at Linux. You can even make it FAR more beautiful than Vista OR OS X Leopard, yet far faster than XP. It's the power of Linux, in your home.

Linux can be installed on DVD Players, iPods, PSPs, the Nintendo DS, Cell Phones, and many others. Hell, Linux can even be installed in your CAR or even on a TOASTER (Yes, it's been done, not sure if it improves toasting quality though).

If you're not switching to Linux because you thinks it's for gear-heads like me, think again. Linux has brought power to people across the globe. It has been used to teach children in Africa, help solve food problems in Europe, and there is now a possible bill going through the government in Europe that would replace Windows on governmental-owned computers with Linux.

With an incredible community, Linux is the operating system for you. And if you don't like it, you can always remove it. Hell, you can try it without even having to install it.

You can download the installation disc, burn it, put it inside your computer, and restart it. Then you can LOAD UBUNTU off of the CD. It will not be full speed because it's not installed to the hard drive, but it will give you a chance to try out Ubuntu with the default applications before you even install it. If you don't like it, you simply turn off your computer and remove the CD on startup and everything will be back to normal.

I am not going to switch. For me, living under protective parents, is just too risky. I would, Emarian, but the DARN PARENTS, lol.

But kinda think of it, I don't think I would. Even though there are equivalents, whats the thing that Linux has that Windows doesn't?

There's also many windows-exclusive things & mac-exclusive things, as well. It all just depends on what's right for you . Linux really isn't for everyone :O! Hence the name of the thread.

I might get linux on my ds if I can get a supercard and passcard 3. It would total 40-60$, but I don't care, playing Quake 2 and Starcraft on the ds ROCKS!!!
