yeah, i think ill keep windows actually, so you can do that thing where, when it loads up you can choose between XP and linux, ill probably only use linux, but its just in case i dont like it.
but i'll have a good sought out and maybe get an external hard drive.

Yes, you can do that thing. It's called dual booting, it'll set up automatically when you install Linux

i supose i could always take my laptop to someone and get them to put a new harddrive in it and get him to copy all my stuff across cos im too lazy to do it myself.

cos its only a 50gb disk anyway (dont mock me, it's a couple of years old).

will i need WINE to get any windows programs (e.g. Office, iTunes (i know thats apple, but obviously i have the windows version) and games)

sorry about all the noobish questions, but i like to make sure i know what im doing before i risk killing my computer which is my best companion.

also, im going for either ubuntu or xubuntu, whats the difference, iv looked on the websites and it basically seems that xubuntu is the same but faster?

As far as I know, WINE is used to run any windows program on Linux, but I believe that Linux has an equivalent for everything XD at least everything that I have looked for, not too sure about Itunes, WINE should run it though.

Xubuntu is basically Ubuntu, it just takes less to run it. It's Ubuntu for slower computers.

I heard Linux was awesome but I don't feel like downloading it because it could screw up my computer anyways Windows is right for me and it would be cool to have Linux though.

Just run both like I do. Dual boot them. It's simple.

if you get the Linux magazine for like 5 pounds then it comes with a disk of loads of different distributions (all based on Ubuntu), you can use this as a test so you dont need to install anything, but put it in your PC, reboot and it will load up in Linux, if you dont like it, you can take the disk out and restart and you PC will be back to normal.

i bought the mag yesterday, im trying it out tonight.
but im gonna get a new laptop soon anyway, so im waiting before i install it.
