Ok i want to record some stuff and burn some cds or whatever and i was wondering what i need to do this i have a microphone i just want a small set up nothing big like the pros just a little small thing what else whatwould i need besides mic's like what would be a good recording program? for mp3's

ok, if your gonna be recording using a mic you need to make your room have fairly decent acoustics, a good way to do this is put blankets and things on the wall so the sound doesnt bounce back off them.

for recording you are gonna need a decent external sound card, this'll set you back at least £100 ($200), this can be used with guitar, mic, anything really.

obviously you need the right software, some good ones are Logic (free with macs) and Audacity. Theres another free one that i can;t remember the name of).

finally, if your gonna be doing loud instruments you might wonna sound proof the place, again, you can do this yourself using pillows and blankets.

basically there is no real cheap way to do this unless you want terrible quality, but you can rent out some already pro studios quiete cheaply depending on how famous they are and so on.

what about those cables that plug from a guitar *electric* and go into the usb port of a computer those are 50-100 and i think have recording software free with it or download from a website.

My friend has a mac and he records his bass and guitar onto his computer all the time with "garage band" i think was the name. he also had a cable that he plugged into his guitar normally straight to his computer to record it.
