Default Nintendo: Wii will rock China, South Korea

Earlier this month, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime stated that the company is harboring no delusions that it will keep up with holiday demand for the Wii. However, the reason he offered wasn't the console maker's ability to manufacture the console; rather, it had to do with the economics behind metering that demand.

It comes as no surprise, then, that Nintendo soon plans to crack into one of the largest markets in the world. Speaking to Reuters, Nintendo chief Satoru Iwata said, "Next year, I think we can bring the Wii (to China)." The report also said that Nintendo hopes to extend the reach of its console into tech-haven South Korea.

However, Nintendo, who just reported half-yearly profits that were up more than double year-over-year, plans for now to continue sleuthing out the sweet spot of console production in current markets. "We suffer a global shortage of the Wii," the Japanese exec said. "Our responsibility now is to deliver as many consoles as we can to existing markets."
